CHARLESTON, SC – August 26, 2020 – As the US celebrates the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote, The Sophia Institute announces the second annual WOMEN RISING! an epic virtual gathering that brings together women from across the country and around the world to hear from some of the most impactful thought leaders of our time. While this year’s event is all-virtual due to COVID-19 containment efforts, it will be presented live, with prominent female leaders from business, the arts and non-profits guiding big conversations on how to live and lead with wisdom, power and a deeper understanding of our purpose in this world. Taking place October 30-31, 2020, just days before the US presidential elections,WOMEN RISING! offers an unprecedented opportunity for women to awaken to our full potential and to deepen our partnerships with men to be effective co-creators of the future.
We are living in a profound moment in human history. As we envision a post-Coronavirus world, women are needed to step up now more than ever. WOMEN RISING! will feature thoughtful and passionate voices addressing a range of key topics, from the origin of American Feminism to Racial Healing to the divine distinction between Purpose vs Passion. This year’s presenters include:
- Elizabeth Lesser, best-selling author and co-founder of the Omega Institute
- Tami Simon, founder and publisher of Sounds True
- Dr. Helen LaKelly Hunt, co-founder of Women Moving Millions; Imago Relationship International
- Lynne Twist, Founder of Soul of Money Institute, Co-Founder of Pachamama Alliance;
- Angie Pincin, CEO of Coach People, Inc.
- Dr. Gail C. Christopher, D.N. executive director of the National Collaborative for Health Equity

In addition to “Big Conversations” led by women who are experts in their fields, the virtual gathering will also include musical interludes by regional artists, break out and networking sessions and a panel discussion with leading female CEOs: Charlotte Beers, former CEO of Ogilvy & Mather and the first woman to appear on the cover of Fortune Magazine; Rita Scott, former GM of WCSC Charleston and Carolyn Sawyer, Founder and CEO of the Tom Sawyer Company (TSC).
“From the #MeToo movement to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent announcement of Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s running mate for the 2020 presidential nomination, more and more women are rising to leadership roles, using their gifts, talents and capacities to create transformative change in the world. Yet, women continue to be the most untapped resource on the planet,” said Carolyn Rivers, Founder and Director of The Sophia Institute, a non-profit center of learning based in Charleston, South Carolina. “WOMEN RISING! is a forum for connecting our minds and hearts to our inner wisdom enabling us to cultivate a more just and conscious world. This year’s event will be an epic virtual gathering bringing forward inspirational women living lives of powerful purpose and reaching a much wider audience during a profound and unprecedented moment in human history.”
